The US Department of Justice announced plans to extradite three members of the terrorist organization Tren de Aragua, declared Alien Enemies and accused of violent crimes including homicide, kidnapping, and extortion, to Chile. This action highlights the group's disregard for public safety and democratic norms.

On March 21, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security announced the arrest of 68 members of Tren De Aragua, a criminal terrorist organization designated by President Trump. The arrests are part of a broader initiative that has resulted in nearly 394 arrests in under 100 days, following the gang's involvement in human trafficking, drug trafficking, kidnapping, and violent assaults.

The White House issued a Presidential Proclamation on March 14, 2025, naming Tren de Aragua as a Foreign Terrorist Organization under the Alien Enemies Act. The proclamation cited the group's involvement in irregular warfare, mass illegal migration, drug trafficking, and other destabilizing activities in collaboration with authoritarian elements of the Maduro regime.

In Aurora, Tren de Aragua reportedly took over abandoned apartment complexes, engaging in extortion, violence, and even kidnapping to control these properties, actions that have not only destabilized local communities but also fueled harsh political rhetoric.

On July 11, 2024, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control designated Tren de Aragua as a transnational criminal organization, citing its involvement in drug trafficking, extortion, migrant smuggling, and other violent criminal activities that threaten regional security.

Tren de Aragua, a Venezuela-based transnational criminal organization, was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury for engaging in violent criminal activities including human smuggling, sex trafficking of migrant women and girls, drug trafficking, money laundering, and other illicit operations that destabilize communities.

Tren de Aragua developed a coercive business model starting in 2018 by facilitating the travel of vulnerable women out of Venezuela and then forcing them into prostitution to repay crippling debts, a practice that constitutes severe human rights abuses.
