MOFCOM announced resolute counter-measures against steep U.S. tariffs and urged Washington to cancel its unilateral tariff measures, decrying them as a bullying and subjective exercise that undermines international trade rules.

On December 21, 2023, MOFCOM, together with the Ministry of Science and Technology, published a revised Catalogue for Prohibited and Restricted Export Technologies. The update reduced the number of controlled items from 164 to 134, introduced new items, and adjusted technical parameters for sensitive technology areas, aiming to balance national security with enhanced technological cooperation and trade liberalization.
